YOUNG AND BOOKED SERIES 1: EPISODE 6

(Left: Obe Keno, Right: Ms Uchenna)

I, Obe Keno, am delighted to welcome YOU to Episode 6 of the YOUNG AND BOOKED SERIES.

Here with me today, is our guest. Meet Ms Uchenna Anaekwe, an Author who writes about the hard things in life.

She is going to answer some very interesting questions about her personal life, goals and growth as an Author in Nigeria for us, so please grab some popcorn/a friend if you can, stay tuned and ENJOY!.

Keno: (smiling brightly) Welcome to the YOUNG AND BOOKED Series Ms Uchenna, thank you for having this interview.

Ms Uchenna: (smiles) Thank you Keno, for having me as a guest on this lovely series, I like what you are doing on the blog and if you’re reading this, THANK YOU.

Keno: Absolutely. Thank you, Readers!. Now, let’s get into the interview proper, Ms Uchenna, I’ll start by asking the first question we have for you today…… What inspired you to write your book “TRIUMPH”?.

Ms Uchenna: (smiles) In today’s world, women are encountered with various issues including domestic violence, childbirth, breast cancer, rape etc. “TRIUMPH” is a book that will help them to see the beauty in prayer and hold on to their faith in seemingly trying times. I wrote “TRIUMPH” to serve as a source of encouragement/inspiration to them. I want them to see themselves through the lives of the main characters: Folake, Patricia and Chinonye. I want them to understand that they have victory in Jesus. Also, to show that we cannot go through life’s journey alone and the company we keep is vital. “TRIUMPH” is a book that shows you the value of Godly friendship and many other important things.

Keno: (nods) “TRIUMPH” sounds like a book that has helped and will help many to ‘triumph’….. Spectacular!. Question 2, How do you process/handle getting negative book reviews?.

Ms Uchenna: (smiles) I do not feel bad when I receive negative book reviews because I see them as reasons to improve my storytelling technique.

Keno: Sounds like a good way to handle them. Question 3, How long did it take you to write your book: “TRIUMPH”?.

Ms Uchenna: (smiles and gestures) It took me about three months to finish writing my book.

Keno: (nods) That is really impressive…. Question 4, What advice would you give to a writer working on their first book?.

Ms Uchenna: (smiles) I’d advise them to get a good Writing Coach for accountability and growth. A Writing Coach will supervise your writing process from beginning to end. Trust me, this will help you to finish writing your first book in record time. I’d also advise them to have a structure for their book writing process; they should have a summarised point for each chapter of the book.

Keno: (smiles) Nice advice. I hope it helps someone reading this. Question 5, What do you struggle most with and what gives you joy most as a young Nigerian author?.

Ms Uchenna: What I struggle most with is lack of support and slow sales. What gives me joy most is that I have built awareness for my brand and I enjoy networking/connecting with others on social media as an Author.

Keno: (smiles) I’m glad to hear there’s a good part…haha. Question 6, Despite the struggles you mentioned, how do you ‘keep on keeping on’ as a Nigerian author?.

Ms Uchenna: It is God and my passion for me. I keep going first and foremost because of God and I am also very passionate about transforming lives by the word of God through my writing.

Keno: (smiles and nods) That is so admirable…. Question 7, How would you describe your book’s (“TRIUMPH”) ideal reader?.

Ms Uchenna: TRIUMPH” would be best for young and older ladies who are going through a rough patch in life and are yet to understand the victory they have in Christ Jesus. Apart from women, anyone can relate to the individual stories of the three women in this book and learn how they each overcome relatable issues.

Keno: (nods) Interesting…… Question 8, What is the most enjoyable part of writing a book for you?.

Ms Uchenna: (smiles) It will always be ‘character creation’ for me. I love to analyse my characters by giving them their different roles. I am someone who loves to think and create a world out of the creative ideas in my head.

Keno: Hmmm…. to create a world. That sounds interesting for sure (smiles)…. Question 9, let’s say a random person (male or female) picks up your book “TRIUMPH” to read today, how do you think it would be benefit them?.

Ms Uchenna: (smiles big) Good question. “TRIUMPH” will help that random person to see that the solution they are looking for is found in the word of God and nothing else. It would help them understand that in Jesus Christ there is absolutely NOTHING they cannot overcome!. It would give them insight on how the right friends in their circle can help them decipher their victory in Christ. “TRIUMPH” would be beneficial to their everyday life as Christians because in the world we live in, challenges are inevitable.

Keno: (smiles) Wow, to say “that sounds good” would be an understatement…… Thank you, Ms Uchenna for this interview and for being our guest on the YOUNG AND BOOKED Series.
